“To demonstrate the reality of a victorious life through Jesus Christ by preparing mature disciples to change an unprepared world.”
Dayspring Christian Fellowship believes that God is presently restoring to His people the power, purpose and purity that was once evidenced in His church, so that His kingdom may be established in the earth today. Therefore…
In order to identify Dayspring Christian Fellowship as conservative and evangelical in theology, we set forth this general statement of fundamental beliefs:
THE LORD established Dayspring Christian Fellowship in the beginning of 1991, through a direct call to Pastors Jim and Teri Downs, to be a non-denominational, charismatic church that will minister the redeeming love of the Lord Jesus Christ regionally, nationally, and throughout the world. We esteem and pursue the unity of the Spirit with every Bible-believing church in our area, and recognize that we need one another to be the Body of Christ. The Lord’s call and purpose for each local body is wonderfully distinctive. His anointing upon Dayspring is distinctive in these areas.
APOSTOLIC: We are called to birth and to nurture new churches and ministries as the Holy Spirit leads, and in doing so will see the abundant fruit of many spiritual sons and daughters, nationally and internationally.
PROPHETIC: We are called to release the prophetic declarations and acts of the Lord for establishing the government of God, the breaking of yokes of bondage, and the confirmation of God’s calling and destiny over the lives of individuals, families, ministries, churches, cities and nations.
HEALING and RESTORATION: We are called to appropriate the miraculous power of Jesus Christ to see God’s children healed and restored spiritually, physically, emotionally and relationally, that He may be glorified in our midst and among the unsaved. An important aspect of this call is to provide an atmosphere where weary and wounded ministers can come to be restored to wholeness and sent back out with joy to their fields of service.
PRAYER: We are called to be a mighty spearhead army of faith-filled intercessors, dangerous in the hands of our God for the pulling down of strongholds and the advancing of God’s Kingdom. We particularly receive the call to pray for the impossible; we serve the God of the impossible.
PRAISE AND WORSHIP: We are called to express the apostolic/prophetic mantle through creative and extraordinary new songs, dance, drama, writing and art that exalts Jesus Christ and brings freedom to His Body. We have received the mandate of the Lord to use all of the arts to bring glory to His name, and He will send His sons and daughters from all over the world to teach us and to be taught by us in this mission to praise Him creatively.
THE LORD miraculously provided for us 37 beautiful acres of prime land several years ago. We traded 16 acres for this wonderful church building on four acres, which we inhabit debt-free, glory be to God! The new building will allow us to grow in numbers and to expand many areas of ministry. The remaining 21 acres of land we still steward is prayerfully preserved and waiting for God’s vision to further unfold. In the days ahead, the Lord will save the lost, restore the prodigals, equip the saints, and prepare His Bride to rule and reign with Him in glory.
Dayspring believes that the Bible is the inerrant Word of God, breathed by the Holy Spirit and illuminated through the light of His teaching. As we grow in our knowledge of the Bible imparted by the Holy Spirit, we understand that the Scriptures are not simply a collection of books written over thousands of years, but one cohesive message from God, given to us supernaturally for the purpose of our gaining knowledge of Him.
These labels mean different things to different people, depending on church backgrounds, but we believe both labels apply to Dayspring.
We interpret the Bible quite literally (keeping in mind that some scriptures are obviously idiomatic or metaphorical), and believe that God means what He says and says what He means. Dayspring encourages active evangelism, meaning that we are all in the full-time ministry as ambassadors of God. We take God seriously in that He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. We are proactive in sharing the Good News of the salvation available to us through the sacrifice of Christ on the cross, as well as spiritual abundance through a Godly lifestyle.
We believe that the gifts of the Holy Spirit, as described in 1 Corinthians 12 and elsewhere, are active in the Church and are available to us as we move in them. Dayspring exercises the gifts as we are led by the Holy Spirit.
Dayspring has no dress code, and you will feel comfortable regardless of what you choose to wear. You are likely to see the full style spectrum, from jeans and tee-shirts to suits and dresses on Sunday morning. Wednesday, however, is decidedly casual.
Dayspring is a fellowship of Christian believers and as such, can claim to be associated with the denomination of the followers of Christ. Otherwise, we are non-denominational. We do, however, pray for and support all other Bible teaching, Bible believing Christian churches of any denomination.
Our worship service is what most people would consider contemporary with a full worship band providing the music. We take our time to worship the Lord and don't hurry through this vital part of our gathering. We try to keep the music as up-to-date as possible while retaining some older standards, and even a few hymns. We often employ the Song of the Lord. Appropriate dancing before the Lord is welcomed.
I wish I could adequately describe Him to you...
Jim and Teri Downs have been fulltime pastors for more than two decades. They began their pastoral journey from Woodland Park in 1984 to plant and lead a church for the Church of the Nazarene in Lincoln, CA. A couple of years later, they planted and pastored a church in Colorado Springs for the Foursquare denomination. After five years there, the Lord called them out of the denominational setting to plant Dayspring in 1991, back in Woodland Park.
After leaving the denominational setting, Jim and Teri were ordained together in 1991 by apostle Alan Vincent of Eagle Ministries International.
